Choose the Right Photo for the Space
Choosing a photo is more than just the perfect subject matter and composition. It also requires you to consider the shape of your photo.
Below are examples of photo cropping problems.
Wide and short shaped photo needed.
Photo not the right shape. Notice heads and bodies cut off.
CORRECT photo for shape- The photo is too tall. The space for the photo is horizontal but is very wide and short.
- In the example to the far left, we chose to crop the photo so that most of the heads and bodies were in the photo but the person standing is cropped without his head.
- Our example to the right has all the heads but cuts off most of the people right below their chins.
- The green photo is the correct shape to fill the space properly.
Tall and narrow shaped photo needed.
CORRECT photo for shapeThis photo is vertical (tall and narrow). This photo is the correct shape and did not need to be cropped.
